Laparoscopy is a minimally invasive surgical technique that allows the surgeon to take pictures of endometriosis that reveal the many different stages of endometriosis. Endometriosis is a common problem of the female reproductive system that can cause reduced fertility or pelvic pain. 

Endometriosis usually forms visible implants along the pelvic peritoneum, the membrane that completely lines the pelvic cavity and also covers the pelvic organs. The initial reaction to endometriosis is inflammatory.
